Aromatic amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) is a pyridoxal 5′‐phosphate-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the final step in the biosynthesis of several key monoamine neurotransmitters, including dopamine and serotonin. Mutations in the DDC gene cause Aromatic Amino Acid Decarboxylase Deficiency, a rare autosomal recessive neurometabolic disorder.
