Arrestin peptide 291-310 is not a therapeutic target in the traditional sense but rather a pathogenic epitope associated with autoimmune uveitis. This peptide sequence is derived from arrestin protein and has been identified as an antigenic epitope that triggers pathogenic T cell responses in patients with autoimmune uveitis[5]. In experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) models, this peptide sequence was used to generate recombinant therapeutic ligands (RTLs) bearing covalently-tethered arrestin peptides as a means to induce immune tolerance rather than to directly inhibit arrestin function[5]. The peptide represents a target for immune tolerance induction strategies rather than a direct molecular target for drug binding. Research has shown that patients with uveitis demonstrate in vitro lymphocyte proliferation against multiple arrestin peptides, making immunomodulation of the anti-arrestin immune response a therapeutic strategy[5].
