ARSD antisense RNA 1 (ARSD-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) classified as a natural antisense transcript of the ARSD gene. It is non-coding, comprised of two exons on the same chromosome as ARSD, and is approximately 816 base pairs in length. ARSD-AS1 is predicted to function as a post-transcriptional regulator, mainly by interacting with specific microRNAs (notably miR-618) and transcription factors such as TP53, thereby influencing gene expression involved in cellular processes including proliferation. In breast cancer, ARSD-AS1 is expressed at significantly lower levels in tumor tissue compared to normal adjacent tissue. This low expression is associated with higher tumor grade, suggesting a tumor suppressive function. ARSD-AS1 may function in a broader spectrum of cancers through gene expression modulation but is not currently a direct drug target, nor are there known drugs targeting it directly[1][4][5][6][8]. Its regulatory roles position it as a potential future biomarker or candidate in gene therapy for oncological diseases.
