Arteriolar smooth muscle potassium channels are a diverse group of ion channels expressed in the plasma membrane of vascular smooth muscle cells, particularly those lining arterioles. These channels are critical regulators of membrane potential and play a central role in controlling vascular tone, blood flow, and blood pressure. By modulating the efflux of potassium ions (K+), these channels influence the contractile state of smooth muscle cells—promoting either vasodilation or vasoconstriction depending on their activity.
