Overview

Arylacetamide deacetylase-like 2 (AADACL2) is a human protein encoded by the AADACL2 gene, located on chromosome 3q25.1[1][6]. It is composed of 401 amino acids, with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 46 kDa and an isoelectric point around 7.2[1][5]. AADACL2 has two Abhydrolase_3 domains encompassing most of its structure, which confer **carboxylic ester hydrolase activity**[1][2]. This protein is predicted to localize to the endoplasmic reticulum, and shows tissue-specific expression—highly enriched in skin, and lower levels detected in placenta, esophagus, small intestine, and colon[1]. While it is one of the top skin-enriched genes and may function as a secreted protein, it is not currently established as a therapeutic target or drug receptor. Experimental findings suggest decreased expression in allergic skin in response to nickel allergy, hinting at a possible role in skin immune responses, but its full biological or pathological significance in humans remains unclear[1][7].
