The arylepoxamide receptor (AEAr) is a novel class of receptor primarily found throughout the brain and spinal cord. It is believed to play a significant role in modulating pain signaling and perception. AEAr represents a novel target for analgesic drug development, distinct from traditional opioid receptors. Recent research suggests that buprenorphine’s unique analgesic properties may be partially mediated through interaction with a mu-opioid receptor subtype now identified as the arylepoxamide receptor.
