Heparan sulfate sulfatases are enzymes that remove sulfate groups from heparan sulfate (HS), a highly sulfated polysaccharide found on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix. These sulfatases, including SULF1, SULF2, and ARSG, modulate the structure and function of HS, thereby influencing processes like cell signaling, tissue development, immune responses, and tumor progression. They are considered therapeutic targets, especially in cancer and developmental disorders.
