ASH2L pseudogene 1 (ASH2LP1) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a segment of DNA related to the functional ASH2L gene but does not encode a functional protein product. Pseudogenes like ASH2LP1 generally lack biological function due to accumulated mutations or lack of regulatory elements required for expression. The functional gene ASH2L encodes a chromatin-associated protein involved in histone modification and regulation of gene transcription, but these roles do not apply to its pseudogene[1][6]. ASH2LP1 is not an established target for drugs nor is it implicated in disease mechanisms. The confusion may stem from the similarity of names between ASH2L (an important chromatin regulatory protein) and ASH2LP1 (its pseudogene). Only ASH2L is known as a biologically functional target; ASH2LP1 should not be listed as a drug target, receptor, or functional enzyme.
