ASNS pseudogene 1 (ASNSP1) is a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence similar to the protein-coding ASNS gene but is typically not translated into a functional protein. The ASNS gene encodes asparagine synthetase, an enzyme critical for asparagine biosynthesis[1][3][5]; however, pseudogenes like ASNSP1 generally lack functional protein expression due to mutations or truncations. In general, pseudogenes can sometimes influence cellular function by serving as sources for regulatory RNAs or by acting as molecular decoys in RNA networks (ceRNA), but there is currently no published evidence that ASNSP1 has such a role[2]. ASNSP1 is not considered a therapeutic target because it does not produce an active enzyme or receptor, and there are no drugs directly interacting with it. Furthermore, listing it as a therapeutic target is incorrect unless future evidence establishes such a function. If your intention was the actual asparagine synthetase gene (ASNS), that is a protein-coding enzyme, but "ASNSP1" itself is a pseudogene and not a drug target[1][3][5].
