Asparagine-linked glycosylation 1-like 5, pseudogene (ALG1L5P)

Target
ALG1L5P
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

ALG1L5P encodes a pseudogene with high sequence similarity to the functional ALG1 gene, which encodes chitobiosyldiphosphodolichol beta-mannosyltransferase. However, ALG1L5P itself does not produce a functional protein and is considered a non-coding genetic element. Pseudogenes like ALG1L5P are often products of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and generally lack biological function, as they do not result in the production of functional proteins or enzymes. There are no known roles for ALG1L5P in disease, no associated drugs, and no known use as a biomarker. The actual ALG1 gene has been studied for its involvement in congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) and encodes a functional mannosyltransferase enzyme, but ALG1L5P is not implicated in these or other diseases[1].
