Aspartate-ammonia ligase (also known as asparagine synthetase) catalyzes the ATP-dependent conversion of L-aspartate and ammonia to L-asparagine. It plays a crucial role in asparagine biosynthesis and is implicated in cancer chemotherapy resistance and neurological disorders. Its expression can be upregulated under cellular stress, and mutations can cause asparagine synthetase deficiency, a rare genetic disorder with severe neurological consequences.
