Aspartic peptidase retroviral like 1 (ASPRV1)

Target
ASPRV1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Aspartic-type endopeptidase, Protease
01

Overview

ASPRV1 (Aspartic peptidase retroviral like 1) is a protein-coding gene that encodes a retroviral-like protease involved in the processing of profilaggrin to filaggrin, which is essential for skin barrier formation and maintenance. Its expression is localized mainly in the epidermis and hair follicles, and loss-of-function variants are implicated in congenital ichthyosis and other skin barrier disorders. It functions as an aspartic-type endopeptidase and is not known to be directly targeted by approved pharmaceuticals.
