Ataxin-1-like pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Ataxin-1-like pseudogene (ENSG00000271573) is a nonfunctional DNA sequence in the human genome that shows sequence similarity to the ataxin-1 gene but contains mutations or structural changes (such as premature stop codons, deletions, or frameshifts) that prevent it from encoding a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as this are considered genomic relics generated by duplication or retrotransposition events and typically do not have established protein products or direct roles in disease. While many pseudogenes are biologically inert, some may exert regulatory effects on expression of homologous genes, though no readily available evidence points to a direct functional or disease association for this specific pseudogene. It is not considered a valid therapeutic target, nor are drugs or biomarkers developed against it.

02

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes are generally non-functional in terms of protein coding but may occasionally have regulatory roles)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct role, but parent genes or loss-of-function events may have evolutionary or disease associations; no direct evidence for this specific pseudogene)
