Ataxin-7-like protein 1 (ATXN7L1) is a protein coding gene and a paralog of ATXN7, which is a core component of the SAGA (Spt-Ada-Gcn5 acetyltransferase) chromatin remodeling complex[1][3]. ATXN7L1 shares significant amino acid homology with ATXN7 and is thought to have overlapping or compensatory functions, particularly in complex formation and chromatin regulation, although its precise molecular role is not well defined[1]. ATXN7L1, along with its paralogs, may substitute for ATXN7 or ATXN7L2 in specific stages of development or differentiation and has been implicated as a possible modulator of neurodegeneration through compensation mechanisms in models of spinocerebellar ataxia[1]. There is no current evidence that ATXN7L1 is a direct therapeutic target, and no drugs are known to interact with it[3].
