Overview

Ataxin-7-like protein 2 (ATXN7L2) is a 722 amino acid protein containing a SCA7 domain highly conserved among ataxin-7 family members. ATXN7L2 is encoded by the ATXN7L2 gene on human chromosome 1. While its precise molecular function has not been clearly established, altered regulation of ATXN7L2 has been observed between normal and tumor tissue in non-small cell lung carcinoma, suggesting a possible role as a prognostic biomarker. The ataxin protein family, to which ATXN7L2 belongs, has been implicated broadly in key cellular processes including chromatin remodeling and ubiquitin-mediated regulation, with some family members essential for neuronal differentiation and function. ATXN7L2 itself is not a receptor, enzyme, or commonly targeted druggable protein. There are no known specific interacting drugs, therapeutic mechanisms, or established safety concerns related to this target as of current information.
