ATF7 antisense RNA 1 (ATF7-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the ATF7 gene locus. Unlike the ATF7 protein, ATF7-AS1 does not encode a protein but is involved in the regulation of gene expression—often through mechanisms like RNA interference, chromatin remodeling, or acting as a molecular sponge for microRNAs. Functional studies suggest that ATF7-AS1 may play a role in the progression of several cancers, with its upregulation being associated with increased tumor growth and poor prognosis in certain malignancies. Its potential to influence gene regulation places it as a candidate biomarker in oncology, but there are no current therapies targeting ATF7-AS1 directly.
