ATMIN pseudogene 1 (ATMINP1) is a **pseudogene** derived from the ATM interactor (ATMIN) gene. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that closely resemble functional genes but have acquired disabling mutations preventing them from encoding a functional protein[7][1][9]. ATMINP1 does not appear to have any protein-coding capability or established biological function and is not considered a molecular target for therapeutic intervention. Its parental gene, ATMIN, acts as an essential ATM kinase cofactor involved in DNA damage response and tumor suppression, but ATMINP1 itself does not play a known role in these pathways[2][1][7]. Pseudogenes like ATMINP1 might sometimes participate in gene regulation through noncoding RNA mechanisms in other contexts, although there is no experimental evidence for this function in ATMINP1 specifically[3][9][5].
