Overview

Atos homolog protein B (ATOSB, also known as FAM214B) is a nuclear protein encoded by the FAM214B gene on human chromosome 9p13.3. It has a predicted function as a transcription regulator, containing a DUF4210 domain with a possible role in chromosome segregation during meiosis, although its precise biological function remains unclear. The protein is primarily localized in the nucleus and is highly expressed in the brain, bone marrow, placenta, and several other tissues, both during development and in adults. Several transcript and protein isoforms exist, with some evidence indicating altered expression patterns in neuropsychiatric and renal diseases. Although ATOSB interacts with some environmental chemicals and several cellular proteins, there is no evidence it serves as a drug target or is involved in classic receptor, enzyme, ion channel, or transporter pathways.
