ATOX1 antisense RNA 1 (ATOX1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcript produced from the antisense strand of the ATOX1 gene. Antisense RNAs generally function by modulating the expression or stability of their sense gene partners, though for ATOX1-AS1, specific biological roles, disease associations, and therapeutic relevance have not yet been clearly defined in the literature. The protein-coding gene ATOX1 encodes the antioxidant 1 copper chaperone, a protein critical for copper trafficking, homeostasis, transcriptional regulation, and implicated in various cellular processes and diseases. However, ATOX1-AS1 itself is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, or clinically relevant biomarker at this time.
