Overview

ATP-binding cassette sub-family A member 9 pseudogene is a DNA sequence in the human genome that is highly similar to the functional ABCA9 gene but is non-functional, lacking the ability to encode a full-length, active transporter protein. Pseudogenes such as this one typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate mutations that render them inactive. Although the parental ABCA9 gene codes for a transporter involved in monocyte differentiation and lipid transport[2][1], the pseudogene variant does not code for a functional protein and thus is not currently considered a therapeutic target or implicated in drug mechanisms. In rare exceptions, pseudogenes can be transcriptionally active and may play regulatory roles, but such functions are not well characterized for this particular pseudogene[4]. If you require information on the functional gene ABCA9 (without the pseudogene designation), please specify, as the drug, disease, and mechanism data then becomes relevant to the encoded protein instead.
