ABCC10/MRP7 is a clinically relevant transmembrane protein whose main function is active export of diverse compounds—including many anticancer drugs—out of cells using energy from ATP hydrolysis. This activity underlies its prominent role both physiologically and pathologically—in particular contributing significantly to multidrug resistance phenotypes seen during cancer therapy. Additionally it may play roles outside oncology related to lipid metabolism regulation.
ATP-dependent efflux pump; actively transports substrates out of cells, reducing intracellular accumulation of drugs.
