Target intelligence / Profile preview
ATP-binding cassette subfamily A member 13 (ABCA13) is the largest known ATP-binding cassette transporter, comprising over 5058 amino acids. It is a transmembrane protein with two transmembrane domains, two nucleotide-binding domains, and several extracellular segments, typical of ABC transporters. ABCA13's primary biological function is hypothesized to be lipid transport across cellular membranes—specifically, the internalization and trafficking of cholesterol and gangliosides in an ATP-dependent manner, particularly in neuronal tissues. Disruption of ABCA13 function, via loss-of-function mutations or genetic deletions, impairs neuronal lipid homeostasis and is associated with increased susceptibility to psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and major depression. ABCA13 is not currently validated as a drug target, and its physiological substrates, regulation, and therapeutic relevance remain areas of ongoing research.
Not established due to lack of direct drug targeting information. Exogenous manipulation (e.g., genetic knockout or mutant analysis) illustrates loss of function and lipid trafficking deficits, but no known pharmacological agents are reported.
