ATP-binding cassette transporter sub-family C member 9 (ABCC9/SUR2)

Target
ABCC9/SUR2
Molecular classification
ABC transporter superfamily, MRP subfamily, Regulatory subunit, Ion channel subunit
01

Overview

ATP-binding cassette transporter sub-family C member 9 (ABCC9/SUR2), also known as sulfonylurea receptor 2 (SUR2), is a regulatory subunit of ATP-sensitive potassium (K-ATP) channels. These channels link cellular metabolism to membrane excitability, and ABCC9/SUR2 plays a crucial role in regulating their activity. It is expressed in various tissues, including cardiac muscle, skeletal muscle, and smooth muscle, and mutations in ABCC9 are associated with Cantú syndrome, familial atrial fibrillation, and intellectual disability/myopathy syndrome. It is a target of drugs such as sulfonylureas and vasodilators.
