ATP-sensitive Potassium Channel Subunit SUR1 (SUR1)

Target
SUR1
Molecular classification
ABC transporter superfamily, Ion channel subunit, Regulatory protein
01

Overview

The ATP-sensitive potassium (K(ATP)) channel subunit SUR1 is a regulatory protein that forms part of the K(ATP) channel complex. This complex is crucial for linking cellular metabolism to electrical activity in various cell types, most notably pancreatic β-cells, neurons, and some cardiac tissues. The K(ATP) channel itself is an octameric structure composed of four pore-forming Kir6.x subunits (typically Kir6.2 in β-cells) and four regulatory sulfonylurea receptor (SUR) subunits—SUR1 being the predominant isoform in pancreatic β-cells.

Other names
Sulfonylurea receptor 1ABCC8
