Overview

ATP synthase F1 subunit alpha pseudogene 3 (ATP5F1AP3) is a non-functional gene sequence located on the human genome, related to the ATP5F1A protein-coding gene. ATP5F1A encodes the alpha subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase, an enzyme complex responsible for producing ATP during oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria. ATP5F1AP3 differs from ATP5F1A in that it is a pseudogene: its sequence resembles ATP5F1A but it is not transcribed or translated into a functional protein. Pseudogenes like ATP5F1AP3 generally do not contribute to cellular function, therapeutic targeting, or disease mechanisms.

02

Mechanism of action

None (not an active pharmacological target)

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogene; does not encode a functional protein and does not participate in biological processes)
04

Disease associations

None directly (by itself, ATP5F1AP3 is not implicated in disease; however, mutations in the parent gene ATP5F1A can cause mitochondrial disorders)
