Overview

ATP synthase F1 subunit epsilon pseudogene 1 (ATP5F1EP1) is a human pseudogene, a non-functional segment of DNA that resembles the protein-coding gene ATP5F1E, which encodes the epsilon subunit of the mitochondrial ATP synthase F1 complex. Unlike ATP5F1E, ATP5F1EP1 does not encode a functional protein and therefore has no known direct biological activity, disease association, or therapeutic relevance as a target. It is a non-expressed genetic remnant. Consequently, ATP5F1EP1 is not considered a molecular, therapeutic, or pharmacological target. For target-based research concerning the ATP synthase epsilon subunit, the functional gene/protein ATP5F1E should be referenced instead.
