Overview

ATP synthase membrane subunit c locus 1 pseudogene 7 (ATP5MC1P7) is a non-functional genomic locus related to the mitochondrial ATP synthase c subunit (subunit 9) gene family. Unlike the protein-coding members (ATP5MC1, ATP5MC2, ATP5MC3), this pseudogene does not produce any protein product and hence does not participate in mitochondrial ATP synthesis or oxidative phosphorylation. Such pseudogenes arise through duplication or retrotransposition events, after which mutations render them transcriptionally or translationally inactive. ATP5MC1P7 should not be confused with ATP5MC1 (also known as ATP5G1), which is a vital component of the F0 subunit of ATP synthase and is required for mitochondrial energy production[1][2][3][6]. If you are seeking a functional enzyme or therapeutic target, refer to ATP5MC1 (ATP synthase membrane subunit c locus 1), which encodes an essential subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase, a critical enzyme complex in cellular energy production[1][2][6].
