Overview

ATP synthase membrane subunit f pseudogene 1 (ATP5MFP1) is a genomic sequence that shares high similarity with the functional gene encoding the f subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase (Complex V), but it is classified as a pseudogene and does not generate a functional protein in humans. The "f" subunit in functional ATP synthase complexes participates in the formation and stabilization of the F0 sector, which is essential for ATP production via oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria. However, ATP5MFP1 itself does not code for an active protein and is not involved in cellular energy metabolism or other known biological processes.
