ATP synthase membrane subunit f pseudogene 3 is a non-coding pseudogene located in the human genome. It is homologous to the gene that encodes subunit f of mitochondrial ATP synthase, a critical enzyme in cellular energy production. However, ATP5MFP3 itself does not encode a functional protein and is classified exclusively as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes like ATP5MFP3 arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate disabling mutations, making them non-functional. ATP5MFP3 does not contribute to ATP synthesis, nor does it have established regulatory or disease associations.
