ATP synthase membrane subunit f pseudogene 5 (ATP5MFP5) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome[5][7]. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences similar to known genes but are nonfunctional, typically due to mutations that prevent them from producing active protein. ATP5MFP5 is an inactive, non-coding variant related to the gene encoding the membrane subunit f of mitochondrial ATP synthase, an essential enzyme of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. Although the active ATP5MF gene codes for a component essential to mitochondrial ATP synthesis, the ATP5MFP5 pseudogene does not encode any functional protein, and there is no evidence linking it to diseases, biological functions, or therapeutic intervention.
