Overview

ATP synthase membrane subunit g pseudogene 1 (ATP5MGP1) is a pseudogene corresponding to the ATP synthase membrane subunit g gene family. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA highly similar to functional genes but are generally non-protein-coding due to mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements. Like some other pseudogenes, transcripts from ATP5MGP1 may have regulatory roles as non-coding RNAs, primarily by acting as microRNA "sponges" that can modulate the expression of their parent gene or related family members through competition for shared microRNA binding sites. There is currently no evidence establishing ATP5MGP1 as a drug target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other therapeutic target class. Thus, it is not considered a direct therapeutic target, and no drugs are known to interact with it or have mechanisms of action associated with it.
