Overview

ATP synthase peripheral stalk subunit d pseudogene 1 (ATP5PDP1) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene. It is related by sequence similarity to the functional ATP5PD gene, which encodes the d subunit of the mitochondrial Fo ATP synthase peripheral stalk involved in ATP synthesis. However, as a pseudogene, ATP5PDP1 does not produce a functional protein product, is not involved in any known biological pathway, and is not considered a therapeutic target or disease gene[6]. The ATP5PD protein (not the pseudogene) is part of the ATP synthase complex essential for cellular energy production[5].
