It closely resembles the functional gene encoding the subunit d of the mitochondrial ATP synthase Fo complex, but ATP5PDP2 itself does not produce a protein product[2][7]. Pseudogenes like ATP5PDP2 are typically nonfunctional relics of evolutionary gene duplication events and are not expected to play an active biological or therapeutic role. Functional ATP synthase Fo complex subunit d is encoded by the ATP5PD gene, which is an active component of mitochondrial ATP synthesis[1][6]. ATP5PDP2 is annotated in human genomic databases and located on chromosome 9, but shows no evidence of being expressed as a protein[4][2][7]. It is not targeted by drugs nor implicated in any disease pathway or clinical biomarker strategy.
