Pseudogenes such as ATP5MC2P1 lack the ability to encode functional protein products and are generally not involved in biological functions or disease mechanisms. There are no known direct roles in disease or therapeutic targeting for ATP5MC2P1. There is no evidence that ATP5MC2P1 is a functional gene, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or otherwise a druggable or therapeutic target. Its closest functional analogue, ATP5MC2, is part of mitochondrial F0 ATP synthase and is involved in oxidative phosphorylation.
