Overview

ATP5MC2 pseudogene 3 (ATP5MC2P3) is a non-functional DNA sequence related to the ATP5MC2 gene, which encodes part of the mitochondrial ATP synthase membrane subunit c (subunit 9). ATP5MC2P3 itself is a pseudogene: it does not code for a protein and is not part of the active electron transport chain or oxidative phosphorylation complex. It has no known direct biological, medical, or therapeutic roles, and is not regarded as a therapeutic target, receptor, transporter, or enzyme. Note: There are several ATP5MC2 pseudogenes, and only the functional ATP5MC2 gene is involved in mitochondrial ATP synthesis. ATP5MC2P3 should not be confused with the protein-coding ATP5MC2 locus or its subunits. If your interest is in mitochondrial ATP synthase or its subunit c, refer specifically to “ATP synthase membrane subunit c locus 2 (ATP5MC2)”.
