Atrial natriuretic peptide receptor 1 (NPR1), also known as natriuretic peptide receptor A (NPRA) or guanylyl cyclase A (GC-A), is a membrane-bound receptor that primarily binds atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP). These peptides are potent vasoactive hormones crucial for cardiovascular homeostasis, regulating blood pressure, blood volume, and sodium balance. NPR1 functions as a guanylyl cyclase, converting GTP to cGMP upon ligand binding, leading to downstream effects like vasodilation.
