Atrioventricular Node Conduction Velocity (AV Node Conduction Velocity)

Target
AV Node Conduction Velocity
Molecular classification
Electrophysiological Property

Overview

Atrioventricular (AV) node conduction velocity refers to the speed at which electrical impulses are transmitted through the AV node, a specialized region of cardiac tissue located in the inferior-posterior region of the interatrial septum. The AV node's primary function is to delay impulse transmission from atria to ventricles, ensuring complete atrial contraction before ventricular contraction. Normal conduction velocity is approximately 0.05 m/sec. Abnormalities can result in arrhythmias like heart block and contribute to reentrant tachycardias.
