Overview

ATXN1 antisense RNA 1 (ATXN1-AS1, also known as AL137003.1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the ATXN1 gene. While the ATXN1 gene encodes ataxin-1, a nuclear protein implicated in neurodegenerative diseases including spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1)[5][7], there is currently no published evidence of a functional, therapeutic, or clinical role for its antisense transcript ATXN1-AS1 in the literature or major genetic databases. Most available scientific and medical information pertains to the protein-coding ATXN1 gene, not the ATXN1-AS1 lncRNA[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. If you require information about the protein product (ataxin-1, encoded by ATXN1), there is considerably more disease and drug development research available. As of this response, however, ATXN1-AS1 itself should be considered a poorly characterized lncRNA with no established function, target profile, or clinical significance.
