Auditory Pathway Cells

Molecular classification
Neurons, Sensory Receptors, Supporting Cells
01

Overview

Auditory pathway cells are a collection of specialized neurons and supporting cells that work together to transmit, process, and interpret sound information from the environment to the brain. These cells include hair cells (sensory receptors in the cochlea), spiral ganglion neurons, cochlear nucleus neurons, superior olivary complex neurons, lateral lemniscus nucleus neurons, inferior colliculus neurons, and medial geniculate body neurons. They are responsible for converting mechanical sound waves into electrical signals, relaying those signals through the auditory pathway, and enabling conscious sound perception.
