Serine/threonine-protein kinase Aurora refers to a family of highly conserved serine/threonine kinases essential for regulating mitosis and meiosis in eukaryotic cells. The family includes Aurora A (AURKA), Aurora B (AURKB), and Aurora C (AURKC). These kinases play crucial roles in centrosome maturation, spindle assembly, and chromosome segregation. Dysregulation, particularly overexpression of AURKA, is linked to various cancers, making them attractive targets for cancer therapy. They are regulated by phosphorylation and cofactor binding.
