Overview

Autologous anti-tumor T lymphocyte therapy is a personalized immunotherapy approach utilizing a patient's own naturally occurring or laboratory-expanded anti-cancer immune effector cells. It has demonstrated significant efficacy especially in certain solid tumors like melanoma due to its ability to mount multi-antigenic responses tailored specifically against each individual's malignancy. The therapy involves isolating, expanding, and reinfusing a patient's own T cells to target and destroy cancer cells. These T cells recognize antigens presented on cancer cells, leading to tumor cell lysis. Successful expansion depends on exogenous cytokines such as IL-2. While highly effective in some cancers, challenges remain in obtaining sufficient numbers of reactive T cells and managing potential toxicities.
