Overview

Ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase family member 2 (ENPP2), also known as Autotaxin (ATX), is a secreted enzyme with both phosphodiesterase and lysophospholipase D activity. Its main physiological function is the production of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a bioactive lipid that acts through GPCRs to stimulate cell proliferation, motility, chemotaxis, wound healing responses, angiogenesis, and other growth factor-like effects. ENPP2/LPA axis plays roles in tumor progression, inflammatory diseases, wound healing and bone mineralization.
