Avian B-lymphocyte surface receptors are immunoglobulin (Ig) molecules expressed on the surface of B cells in birds, serving as the primary molecules for antigen recognition and B cell activation[1][5]. The most canonical of these is the membrane-bound B cell receptor (BCR), composed of a surface immunoglobulin molecule (such as IgM) associated with a signal-transducing complex. In the chicken, B cell receptors have limited germ-line diversity, but diversification occurs in the bursa of Fabricius through a process called gene conversion[1]. Additional avian-specific Fc receptors, such as CHIR-AB1, are present on B cells and interact with the Fc region of IgY, participating in immune complex recognition and signaling[2]. The B cell receptors are crucial for early B cell development, peripheral immune responses, and the generation of the antibody repertoire. Surface markers such as chB6 (Bu-1) and BAFF-R are used to identify different stages of B cell maturation and activation[3]. Although these receptors are critical for immune function, "Avian B-lymphocyte surface receptors" as a target is overly broad and not a single, well-defined molecular entity, but rather a functional group encompassing the avian B cell receptor complex, its Ig components, and, in some cases, avian-specific Fc receptors.
Antibody (immunoglobulin) binding to the B cell receptor triggers intracellular signaling and B cell activation[1][5] Interaction with immune complexes can induce calcium mobilization and signaling (for some Fc receptors, specifically CHIR-AB1)[2]
