Overview

Axin interactor, dorsalization associated (AIDA) is a multifunctional protein characterized by a unique C2 domain structure, enabling it to bind phosphoinositides and associate with membranes in a Ca(2+)-independent manner[1]. AIDA binds the axis formation inhibitor axin and inhibits axin-mediated Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) activation, thereby antagonizing dorsalization during vertebrate embryonic development and promoting ventralization[1][2][3]. It plays roles in membrane dynamics, negative regulation of stress signaling pathways, and cytoskeletal anchoring. In humans, AIDA is implicated in cardiovascular disease via endothelial function regulation and may act as a biomarker in certain cancers, although there is no current evidence of it being targeted by drugs or serving as a direct therapeutic target[2][3].
