The B-cell lymphoma-w protein (BCL-W) is a member of the BCL-2 family, a key regulator of apoptosis. BCL-W acts as an antiapoptotic factor promoting cell survival by inhibiting programmed cell death. Overexpression is observed in lymphomas such as Burkitt Lymphoma and Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, which correlates with decreased patient survival rates and resistance against therapies targeting other antiapoptotic members. MYC regulates expression levels. Potential therapeutic strategies aim at inhibiting or downregulating BCL-W to sensitize tumor cells to apoptosis-inducing treatments.
