B-cell receptors (BCRs) and T-cell receptors (TCRs) recognizing HPV58 L1 virus-like particle (VLP) conformational epitopes are the primary molecular sensors of the adaptive immune system responsible for identifying and neutralizing Human Papillomavirus type 58. HPV58 is a high-risk oncogenic genotype with a notably high prevalence in East Asian populations, where it contributes significantly to the incidence of cervical cancer (PMID: 25107466). The L1 protein, the major capsid protein of the virus, self-assembles into VLPs that mimic the native virion's structure and present complex conformational epitopes essential for inducing a protective immune response (PMID: 16439306). BCRs on the surface of B-lymphocytes bind directly to these surface-exposed epitopes, triggering B-cell activation and the subsequent secretion of neutralizing antibodies that block viral entry into host cells (PMID: 26456231). Simultaneously, TCRs recognize L1-derived peptides presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules, providing the necessary T-cell help for B-cell maturation and the formation of long-lived memory cells. These receptors are the functional targets of prophylactic vaccines like the 9-valent HPV vaccine (Gardasil 9), which utilizes HPV58 L1 VLPs to prime the immune repertoire and prevent infection-related pathologies (PMID: 25693011). Understanding the precise interaction between these receptors and VLP epitopes is critical for evaluating vaccine efficacy and developing next-generation immunotherapies.
