Overview

B16-F10 is a syngeneic murine melanoma cell line derived from the C57BL/6 mouse strain, widely recognized in preclinical oncology for its high metastatic potential and aggressive growth characteristics [ATCC CRL-6475]. It was originally established through serial transplantation and selection for lung-colonizing ability, making it a standard model for studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer metastasis [Fidler, 1973]. Because it can be grown in immunocompetent C57BL/6 mice, it serves as a primary tool for evaluating cancer immunotherapies, including checkpoint inhibitors and therapeutic vaccines [Overwijk & Restifo, 2001]. The cells are characterized by their production of melanin and the expression of melanoma-specific antigens such as tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TRP-1) and gp100. It is important to note that B16-F10 is a biological model system (cell line) rather than a single molecular target like a receptor or enzyme.
