B3GALT5 antisense RNA 1 (B3GALT5-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the B3GALT5 gene. It is upregulated in gastric cancer and has been shown to promote tumor cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and angiogenesis while inhibiting apoptosis[1][2]. Functionally, B3GALT5-AS1 regulates the expression of its sense gene B3GALT5 by recruiting WDR5, which modifies chromatin (H3K4me3 at the B3GALT5 promoter region), impacting gene transcription[1]. Additionally, B3GALT5-AS1 binds CSNK2A1 and is implicated in the regulation of extracellular matrix remodeling and apoptosis in gastric cancer cells[2]. High expression of B3GALT5-AS1 correlates with advanced tumor stage, lymphatic metastasis, and poor prognosis in gastric cancer, and thus may serve as a disease biomarker[1][2]. There are currently no drugs approved to target this lncRNA directly.
