Overview

B4GALNT2 pseudogene 1 (B4GALNT2P1) is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence located on human chromosome 17 and annotated as a pseudogene homologous to the functional beta-1,4-N-acetyl-galactosaminyltransferase 2 gene (B4GALNT2)[1][5]. Unlike the protein-coding B4GALNT2 gene, which encodes an enzyme central to the synthesis of the SDa blood group antigen and displays regulatory activity in cancer and other biological processes[2][3][4][6], B4GALNT2P1 does not produce protein or participate in known biochemical or disease pathways. It is not considered a drug target, biomarker, or functional receptor/enzyme/transporter. There is no evidence of its involvement in therapeutic intervention or biological mechanisms, and it should not be confused with B4GALNT2, the functional gene.
