B4GALT1 antisense RNA 1 (B4GALT1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed divergently from the B4GALT1 gene locus via a bidirectional promoter region[1]. Multiple transcript variants exist, which exhibit complementary sequences to the coding transcript and may regulate B4GALT1 expression through antisense mechanisms, impacting chromatin structure and mRNA stability[1]. B4GALT1-AS1 has been implicated in cancer biology: its downregulation is observed in breast cancer and other tumors, and it can interact with proteins such as HuR to stabilize oncogenic transcripts (e.g., YAP mRNA), contributing to tumor cell proliferation and survival[4]. In other contexts, elevated B4GALT1-AS1 expression has been found to promote tumor progression (e.g., non-small cell lung cancer via the miR-30e/SOX9 axis)[6]. Current evidence positions B4GALT1-AS1 primarily as a research biomolecule with roles in transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation rather than as a direct therapeutic target.
